My closet and drawers are lined with Lululemon, Athleta, Pheel, and premium women’s active wear. You’ll rarely see me recycle an outfit in the same month. Fashion met function for me in running and working out long ago.
But my husband? If it weren’t for the Lululemon menswear purchases I’ve made for him (many of which I’ve received lectures on because of my spending), he would be in the same knit gym shorts he wore when I met him and hole filled tshirts from high school. His reasoning is that since he hasn’t changed sizes he doesn’t need anything new.
Well I guess that’s served me well, considering that has left more money to be spent on my addiction. But notice his mug hasn’t been filling up my instagram account much. 🙂
AthletesCollective, a Toronto-based men’s non-logo athletic clothing company, changed that when they sent over an awesome care package for my hunka-hubby! Talk about a perk of being married to me! But seriously I was really excited to have him test the gear out because he works out as much as I do and could certainly use a workout wear facelift! Not to mention, if he liked the gear, the timing couldn’t be better with Valentine’s Day around the corner! I knew many of my followers and subscribers would love to check the clothing out for the men in their lives, too!
Company president Adam Mintz had been in communication with me and made sure I knew that even if Dustin wasn’t a runner (though he is), their gear encompasses all sports – it works on the trails, the track, at the gym, on the court, at practice or on the field. My concerns were outright with him. They are Canadian based and the shipping issue for US buyers was on my mind (timing and cost). Also, I mentioned I had recently bought him Lululemon so his quality standards were high.
Adam reassured me that I wouldn’t be disappointed in their shipping, cost, quality or customer service. Canadian Running Magazine recently featured their clothing in their magazine. Oh and US peeps, we get to take advantage of the Canadian currency! Um, hello – free shipping and the Canadian dollar! Yes, please!!! Less than a week after ordering Dustin’s gear (with no logos or words on the items, might I add) it was here in Texas from Toronto!
Three tops and one pair of shorts came from Athletes Collective. For reference, Dustin is 5’11,” 175-180 lbs with a muscular build. He prefers clothing to fit on the looser side so he likes size large in most everything. Adam said he’d be sending a sizing card with the clothing and if anything didn’t fit, to just let him know. Return shipping is free and returns and exchanges can be done within 30 days of ordering.
All Athletes Collective clothing is logo free on the exterior. This is great because Dustin dislikes being a walking advertisement and hates words on his clothing. The only place they have their logo is on the interior back where the sizing is located. The shirts are also preshrunk.
The Folkerson Tee is an 88% polyester, 12% spandex blend, which feels durable and thick. The fit is true to size, and has an athletic, not compressive fit. Dustin liked it a lot and wished he had it in other colors. It comes in 3 colors at this time, black, midnight blue and heather grey. (many colors are sold out)
It retails for $25 CAD/$19 US. Plus free shipping! In my opinion, that’s a steal!
The Conway 1/4 Zip has raglan sleeves and shoulders and is made up of a moisture wicking polyester spandex blend that keeps you cool when you workout. The flatlock seams reduce chafing and this style, too, is preshrunk and an athletic non-compressive fit. It comes in the two colors at this time, heather grey and heather green. Out of the two styles of tops sent, this was Dustin’s favorite. It was the most flattering on him and versatile in terms of he could wear it to the gym and with jeans.
It retails for $45 CAD/$35 US. Plus free shipping! You HAVE to buy this!!!
Shorts are tough for Dustin because he is particular about them. He doesn’t like them too long (basketball style) or too short (runner style). He prefers an in between “masculine” length. The Every Moment shorts strike a nice balance that fit that criteria with an 8″ inseam and while they aren’t as stretchy as Athletes Collective shirts, they have a nice mix of stretch and structure. They are made of polyester twill and have two side pockets, one back zipper pocket and an additional key card pocket.
Though you wouldn’t usable it from the photo these shorts also have a drawstring waist tie. Dustin falls in the medium category for waist size but ordered a large due to thigh size, and because of that, when the drawstring isn’t utilized, the waist sags a bit on him. While these were a tad baggier than he normally wears, (I wonder if he should have ordered a medium), we were still impressed with the quality and the pockets were great.
The Every Moment shorts retail for $30 CAD/$22 US, plus free shipping, which is less expensive than any of the major brands! Choose between blue, black, and true north red or at that price, buy them all!
Remember the special sizing card I said would be in my package? Well this was it and I have to say, it sure is a customized touch!
Isn’t that creative and fun? The Athletes Collective Website has other athlete user profiles you can click on, including the sports they play, body build, and size they wear for reference when ordering. Along with the baseball sizing card I received a handwritten post card from Adam himself.
So now that you’ve read through this and you have the perfect Valentine’s gift to give the athletic guy in your life, you’re thinking “do I have enough time to order something from Canada???” Yes, as long as you order by Monday! (Most likely) Plus you can use code JESSRUNS to save 10% on your order!
I would love to hear what you (and your man) think, especially if you order!
