I wasn’t one for publicly talking about my resolutions or goals this year. I know that if you write your goals down or openly acknowledge them they are more likely to happen. And I am keeping them written down and talking to my closest friends about them. But there is something about making yourself vulnerable to thousands of people when you talk about your dreams and goals and miss them. Not going to lie, last year was somewhat disappointing. Of course I learned a lot, you always do, in fact probably more so from failure than success. But it’s frustrating to have an uncooperative body and an overachieving mind.READ MORE
Good morning and happy Monday! I’m excited to share a new partnership I’m doing with JackrabbitNYC and Nike for their new Run, Train, Live campaign!
We all buy workout wear for working out and it’s wonderful for that. But Nike’s newest items have really been designed to crossover to more than just running and training. They are designed with people’s busy lives in mind. Whether it be functionality for multi sport use like running and gym wear, or fashion minded focus so that you can wear items like their epic lux tights to and from the gym to happy hour or to a PTA meeting, they’ve got you covered. Jackrabbit gave me the opportunity to try some of their newest pieces out. I was able to put them to the test running, training (yoga) and on the go. I have to say the days of the old baggy Nike tempo shorts is gone.
I tried out the Nike Pro Classic Padded Bra (pads are removable and bonus it’s on sale for $23.97 in the carbon heather) along with the Nike Power Epic Lux Tight Print and let me just say, as a woman with muscular thighs, these tights do some nice compressing and slimming!!!
I also wore the same tights and bra running on two occasions and paired them with the Nike DRI-FIT Contour Short Sleeve (white no longer available but many colors on sale for $22.97), the Nike Sphere Dry Training Top (mine in purple), the Women’s Nike Air Zoom Vomero 11 (mine in grey/pink but many colors on sale), Nike Cushion No Show Sock (on sale for $9.97) and the Nike DRI-Fit Feather Light Hat.
Like I mentioned, the gear is very transitional and I was easily able to toss on a different top, spray on some body spray and add a little more deodorant and have coffee post yoga session with my great girlfriend, Real Housewife of Dallas cast member and fashion blogger, Stephanie Hollman! A fashionista herself, Steph even asked where she could get the tights I was wearing for herself!
So that brings me to the Social Media Contest!

This week has been a cutback week (35 miles) and then next week starts my final phase of marathon training (back to 50 miles) and what a good week to have a low mileage week because Sunday’s rainy 18 miler did a number on my feet. I’ll spare you the photos because I know some of you can’t stomach blister pics but lets just say my big toe and second toe chafed for 16 of those miles leaving my skin completely raw and looking like they went through a meat grinder. Now, with no skin, I can barely walk, let alone run (but maybe I’ll get around to painting my toenails). I got through 15 miles this week but I have no idea how my 19 miler is going to happen … Hoping for a miracle.
Sharing my birthday with one of America’s greatest tragedies kind of sucks, but my running friends at LGRAW made it better! My friend (and way faster runner), Jessica Smith, organized a birthday run for me at the club (Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers). And they were all sweet enough to run at my pace in the pouring rain! It was storming in the early morning so I wasn’t even sure if we were going to still meet, but at 5:30 am Jess texted me and said we’d still meet up there and see if it was still doable.
So we met and although it was still coming down, the lightening had let up and we headed out for an easy 7 miles (I had 17 on the agenda for Sunday). It was just what this runner wanted for a birthday celebration! Post run, we enjoyed (ok they enjoyed) pumpkin spice muffins, bagels, and coffee … and mimosas! Random fact about me: I love post run ice pops and mimosas sans orange juice (more bang for your buck)!!!
Most of these same friends met up again on Sunday, my actual birthday for another run, my long run day, and joined in for glorious weather and great running! I had a wonderful 17 miler, lots of company and finished the week with 51.5 miles. A great marathon training week under my belt!!!
Sunday, my actual birthday, after my long run, I came home to homemade cards from the kids and a bouquet of hydrangea (my favorite flowers) and insructions to take a relaxing bath and be ready for a sports massage at 1 pm. Following that amazing massage, Dustin and I went shopping for me (I got some fun stuff I, of course, did not need) and then enjoyed sushi and drinks to celebrate! It was a wonderful birthday and I love that he accommodated my training.
What is your idea of the perfect birthday?
